Alternative plan for rescue of Barlovento Primero is sought

A year and a half after the sinking of dredger Barlovento Primero (IMO 5299486) the local Maritime Captaincy was now looking for an alternative plan to the one presented by the company which won the bid to refloat it. Early on May 31st Barlovento Primero submerged completely off the port of Suances, near Santander, northern Spain. She did not pose any obstacle to the entry and exit of other vessels The vessel had been dredging in the port’s entrance channel at the time. A second refloating plan presented by the company in charge, BAM Maritime, has been rejected, being regarded as unfeasible. The firs reflotation attempt failed. 1962-built, Spain-flagged, 260 gt Barlovento Primero is owned and managed by Pedreguera-Barateguia of Suamces (Cantabria) Spain.
