Aldan remains detained in Spanish port

The situation of oil products tanker Aldan (IMO 9258014) remained unchanged as of June 18th. The vessel had been was ordered to be detained by the Maritime Captaincy of Alméria of the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine of Spain for an illicit discharge of hydrocarbons over an area of about 55 km2.

The pollution was detected by an EMSA satellite and surveillance aircraft of Salvamento Marítimo. The ship was ordered to the port of Alméria on June 14th

The ship’s manager has been ordered to pay a Spanish record fine of €600,000 ($715,000) to release the vessel.

Refinitiv shipping data showed the ‘Aldan’, which had been heading eastwards through the Mediterranean to Greece.

2003-built, Liberia-flagged, 28,529 gt Aldan is owned by Baht Shipping Corp care of manager Muhit Maritime FZE of Dubai, UAE. It is entered with West of England (Claims Team Greece) on behalf of Baht Shipping Corp.
