Accident round-up: 8th February 2017

General cargo ship BBC Caribbean was attacked by pirates in Gulf of Guinea 45nm south-west of Brass, Nigeria, near the Pennington Oil Terminal. BBC Caribbean was approached by a motor skiff with armed men on board, who opened fire. The guards on BBC Caribbean returned fire and the attack was repelled. A navy boat arrived on the scene but failed to track the pirates. BBC Caribbean is 6,229dwt and 5,261grt. The owner and manager of the general cargo ship is Briese Schiffahrt, while the operator is BBC Chartering. According to database BBC Caribbean is covered by Swedish Club (not lead insurer).

Bulk carrier Alam Manis ran aground on February 2nd north north-east of Mauritius, probably in load. As of February 7th it was in the same position, condition unknown. Salvage has apparently been contracted. According to database Alam Manis is covered by UK P&I through Member Manis Shipping Pte Ltd.
