Accident round-up : 10th February 2017

The missing skipper of a capsized Cape Town harbour tugboat was only found dead inside his vessel 24 later. Two other crew members were rescued. A search & rescue operation was launched on Saturday afternoon after Captain Steven Lategan’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) service boat flipped over 300 metres from shore in Table Bay Harbour. His body was discovered inside the boat’s engine room on Sunday afternoon.

A large sinkhole has appeared at Peel Ports’ £400m container terminal Liverpool2 container terminal, according to local news reports. The terminal only opened last

November. Terminal operator Peel Ports said it had been aware of a potential issue in the area for a few weeks and that it had taken immediate action “to ensure the safety of all port staff and visitors and have opened an investigation”. The terminal remains open but access to the affected area is restricted.
