Accident round-up : 4th October 2016

Product tanker Volgoneft 160 ran aground on September 30th at the 1,860km point on the River Volga, with 4,144 tons of bunker fuel reportedly on board. The vessel stranded off fairway while turning from one channel to another. No leak was reported and traffic was not affected. The tanker is en route to Kavkaz port, Azov Sea.

Passenger ship Stellar Sea ran aground near Tofino, British Columbia, Canada. The small vessel was on a bear-watching tour when it ran aground in shallow waters, sustaining hull damage. All 26 passengers were safely returned to Tofino. A boom was placed around the vessel to contain any potential pollution. A salvage firm has been hired to recover the vessel.

Bulk carrier Nordic Odyssey was reported as grounded while leaving Liepaja, Latvia, partially loaded with grain, late on October 2nd. The vessel was refloated early the following morning and taken to anchorage.

Bulk carrier Paraskevi was reported as suffering difficulties in the Suez Canal on October 3rd while moving north. The vessel suffered engine trouble for some minutes, continuing its journey with the help of Canal tugs.
