Accident round-up: 30th November 2016

Bulk carrier Ingrid C rescued five of seven-crew on catamaran ferry Kanzam Express, which sank on November 28th about 50nm west of the Batanes Archipelago, Luzon Strait, Philippines. The passenger vessel had no passengers on board at the time. A search is underway for the remaining two crew, although bad weather is hampering the search. Ingrid C was en route to Taiwan at the time. According to database, Ingrid C is covered by UK P&I through member Casita SA. No details on Kanzam Express, which is 42dwt and 272grt.

Cargo vessel Hung Thai 17 capsized about a mile off the Quang Dong coast, Vietnam, on the morning of November 29th. The vessel loaded with phosphate mineral apatite lost control of its steering. The strong swell caused cargo shift. Ten of the crew were rescued, while the situation with the vessel remains unclear. No details of the vessel in P&I databases. Hung Thai 17 is 2,950dwt.

The captain of mega yacht Al Mirqab has reportedly been arrested for pollution at Elevsis port. A stain of some 60 sq m was created around the vessel. The chief engineer is also understood to have been detained.
