Accident round-up : 25th October 2016

Reefer Baroasaa (IMO: 8304323) caught fire on October 19th near Thilafushi, Maldives. It was reportedly still burning as of October 22nd. Of 19 crew, one is said to be missing. No record of cover found in P&I club databases.

Passenger ship KM Lambelu (IMO: 9124548) ran aground early in the morning local time on October 22nd near Tarakan Island, northeast Kalimantan coast.

The vessel was reportedly trying to pass a pontoon or some other obstacle. Attempts to refloat vessel failed and passengers were evacuated. No record of cover found in P&I club databases.

Cargo vessel Hong Xing 88 (IMO:1112223) was caught in typhoon Haima off Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, East China Sea, on October 20th. The vessel, loaded with sand, dropped anchor in position. At around 21.00 local time the vessel reported water ingress. Seven crew were rescued by Coast Guard Rescue boats, after which the vessel sank, with part of superstructure remaining above water. No record of cover found in P&I club databases.

Car carrier Silver Sky (IMO 8519722) was still on fire in the port of Antwerp, but under control after the injection of  CO2. The temperature is still too high for firefighters to enter the decks, but there are no toxic fumes.  Fire erupted on board Silver Sky around midnight local time on October 20th, starting on a cargo deck loaded with used cars bound for Africa. Silver Sky reported as covered by Skuld under Member Sallaum Lines DMCC and owner Silver Sky Shipping SA.
