Standard Club has published a four-page master’s guide to the carriage of steel cargo. It noted that steel was a high-value cargo but was easily damaged by rough handling, water and moisture. Therefore when carrying steel products by sea it was essential to ensure that neither the steel nor the ship suffered damage. The guide focuses on correctly loading, stowing, caring for and securing steel cargoes. “Its advice, if followed, will assist in the avoidance and prevention of steel cargo damage claims”, the club said.
