Oil products tanker Sea Marine 1 (IMO 9255830) suffered an engine malfunction in front of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge on May 4th while it was en route from the STS transfer area in the Laconian Gulf south of Greece to Russia. Assistance was required. The ship was taken in tow by a tug to the Şevketiye anchorage.

2003-built, Vietnam-flagged, 25,561 gt Sea Marine 1 is owned and managed by Farivaship HK Ltd of Hong Kong, China. ISM manager is Loadline Ship Management Pvt of Maharashtra, India. As of May 6th the vessel was in the Black Sea, north-east of Istanbul.

Traffic was suspended in the Bosphorus Strait on Tuesday May 6th after bulk carrier Alexis (IMO 9609158) had an engine failure at the southern end of the straits, shipping agent Tribeca said. It said that the Liberian-flagged bulk carrier suffered an engine failure at 05:00 and that vessels were sent to the area for a likely salvage operation.

2012-built, Liberia-flagged, 45,271 gt Alexis is owned by Genova Seas SA care of manager Modion Maritime management SA of Athens, Greece. It is entered with Gard on behalf of Genova Seas SA. As of May 7th it was listed as “Stopped” in the Bosphorus Strait.

Salvage crews within the Baltimore Key Bridge Unified Command were preparing for the removal of bridge section four, which lies across the bow of the Dali, the UC said in an update. The operation would require careful handling of roadbed material, crushed containers, and bridge fragments currently resting on the bow. The salvage teams were preparing for the refloating of the ship. The UC said that “the complexities of this next phase of operations required thorough preparation, strategic planning, and specialized expertise”.

On Friday, May 3rd Ambassador Cruise line ship Ambience (IMO 8521232) reported that a crew member had gone missing during the final stage of its world cruise. The crew member failed to report for duty as scheduled, shortly after breakfast, and was reported missing. Eventually an extensive search was initiated by the cruise line and the Spanish Coast Guard. The Ambience was en route from Lisbon, Portugal back to its home port of Tilbury, UK. The cruise ship retraced its previous route in the Atlantic Ocean west and South of the Spanish Port of La Coruna, and west and north of Vigo, to try to locate the missing crew member.

ISM manager is Bernhard Schulte Cruise Services of Hamburg, Germany. |It is entered with American Club on behalf of Wake Asset Co. As of May 7th it was moored at Rotterdam, Netherlands.
